What is osteopathy?

Osteopath’s DO(MP) treat the cause of the problem which resolves the symptoms. By determining the underlying factors causing the problem and assessing and treating the physical health of the patient. It is a manual, gentle and non-invasive treatment. A Manual Osteopathic Practitioner will assess and treat disorders of the body’s structure as it relates to any of the body’s systems: muscular, skeletal, respiratory, cardiovascular, digestive, nervous or reproductive. In fact, the Manual Osteopathic Practitioner will work not only with the spine and joints, but with tissues, scars, fascia and fluids as well. There are various techniques used on the joints or organs and gentle movement to correct biomechanical dysfunctions.

Osteopathic Consultation – What to Expect?

  • Full Health History – discussing past medical history, surgeries, car accidents, breaks/sprains/fractures, sports you played, falls that you have sustained etc.
  • Postural/Gait Analysis
  • Muscle Testing – testing for weakness, or muscles that are not firing or overcompensating
  • Identifying hidden factors that underlie any illness or injury you have sustained.
  • Gentle manipulation to free restricted joints, tight muscles, tethered nerves and blockages around organs. The release of tension allows healing to occur.
  • Suggestions for stretches & yoga poses that you can work on at home to help aid in the healing process.
  • Strengthening exercises that will help build up any weaknesses in the body and prevent future injuries.
